Top 5 Wish-They-Had-Romance List

How many times have you read a book or seen a movie and really wished that a character either got together with someone else or at least had a romance of their own. In honor of Valentine’s Day, here are my top 5 moments like that:
Black Widow / Hawkeye – Avengers
Let’s just get those to kick ass fighters together already (I’m talking the movies here). I know that a deep connection has been hinted at, but give me a good solid relationship. They obviously have chemistry. Come on!
Leah Clearwater – Twilight
This poor girl gets broken up with by her fiance because of that wolf bond. I get that the strength of that bond was important to show. But then she is forced to be part of his pack. At least give her someone to bond with and find her own happiness.

Sirius Black – Harry Potter
Poor lonely Sirius. Give that man someone who always believed in him, waited for him, and would take care of him (at least until he died.) Maybe she even broke him out of prison.

Rogue/Gambit – X-Men
One of my favorite “superhero” romances is between Rogue and Gambit in the 90s cartoons. They have great chemistry and fun verbal exchanges. I was very disappointed that the movies left him out until “The Wolverine”, had her with Ice Man, and have yet to have the two of them meet. A girl can dream though.

Aragorn/Arwen/Eowyn/Faramir – Lord of the Rings
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they get together eventually. In the movies they at least made Aragorn/Arwen’s romance more obvious. In the book it seemed mostly like a footnote in the Appendices. The movie didn’t make Eowyn/Faramir’s romance as obvious, but it still wasn’t much in the book. I found out while writing this that Tolkein originally did have Eowyn/Aragorn together and changed it up late. Interesting.

All right my friends. Which ones would you add to this list?
Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

  1. While I wasn't wishing for Harry and Hermione in the HP books, Emma Watson sure had a lot more chemistry with Daniel Radcliffe (especially when they were hiding by the tree in the 3rd movie) than Rupert Grint in the movies.

  2. Agree. Much better chemistry.

Congrats! I'm giving both commenters on this one the prize of a signed copy of Andromeda's Fall (as soon as it's out in print). 🙂 Please email me the information of where to mail at abigail[dot]owen[dot]books[at]gmail[dot]com!
