Writers Cruise 2024

Texas Romance Writers organized our second annual Writers Cruise and it was fabulous!

Joining me were awesome authors Cathy Maxwell, Cate Ashton, Bonnie Tucker, and Leslie Grace. We sailed out of Galveston, trying Princess this time. Our destinations were Cozumel, Belize, and Roatan.

We spent the majority of our cruising time writing or editing our books, as well as getting in good brainstorming time, and discussions about the industry, marketing, what’s working, good workshops, etc. Personally, I got started on book #2 in a series that hasn’t been announced yet (but will be soon!). This series just flows out of me so fast, and so I had a blast getting back into that world and mode.

We ended up not docking on Cozumel because the winds were too high, so we got a bonus day at sea for more writing. In Belize and Roatan, some of us did shore excursions. Generally, we kept it to the shorter excursions, so we could still have plenty of writing time during the day.

In Belize I did the river cruise and saw all sorts of cool things. We slowly moved through a herd of manatees, dolphins played in the wake of our boat. We got to see iguana, a crocodile, a monkey, and all sorts of bird, including mama and papa storks (with an 8 foot wingspan) and their next. We also ate in Belize and it was sooooo good.

In Roatan we did a bit of an island tour, stopping at Blue Harbor Arboretum, shopping in West End, and the Butterfly Garden. I got to taste fresh pineapple and papaya, bought local chocolate, and had a toucan land on my arm. So fun!

In the evenings we would take a break for dinner and drinks.

I had a blast and got a lot of writing done in an idyllic setting that, at least personally, I found quite good for inspiring my brain to come up with words!

Writing retreats are the best!
