“Here, Kitty Kitty” Author Spotlight: Abigail Owen

“Here, Kitty Kitty” is an anthology of six paranormal romance short stories featuring exotic cat shapeshifters. The anthology was released October 6th, 2013. All profits from this anthology will go to charity to benefit the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana. I’ve spotlighted each of the contributing authors. A little odd to spotlight myself, but fun anyway.

Story: Hannah’s Fate (A Shadowcat Nation Story)
Cougar shifters have allied into groups, together in a rocky alliance to protect themselves against other shifters. Hannah Keller becomes the targeted Mate for Kyle Carstairs, the treacherous soon-to-be Alpha of another group. Meanwhile, Nick Jensen, her childhood hero and longtime secret crush, has returned home with hopes of claiming Hannah for his own. But will he be in time to rescue her from the Carstairs’s schemes?

Author Interview:
1. What inspired you to write about cougar shifters?
I love all exotic cats. They’re so graceful and so powerful at the same time – just fascinating. Cougars are found in my area of northern California. There’s a couple at our local zoo, and they’re gorgeous. I actually could happily write about any type of cat. But my idea for the story came from a specific scene in my head of a large cat standing guard in the mountains – and that naturally led to mountain lions as the cat.

2. Why is paranormal romance a favorite genre of yours?
This is a combination of my favorite two subjects. I’ve been reading romance since I was about twelve. But I’ve always enjoyed fantasy/sci-fi (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings). What could be better than combining the two? I like a full on escape when I read and when I write, and that’s what this genre combo provides.

3. Is this your first collaboration with other authors? And how did you like it?
This is my first collaboration with other authors and I’ve had a great time. And I was happy (and honored) to be involved with anything Mia wanted to organize. So fun to see how each of us approached the same topic and see the different styles. I also love that what we’re doing helps these incredible animals.

4. Tell us about your works in progress.
I’m deep into writing the fourth and final installment of the Svatura series – Black Orchid. I can’t believe I’m finishing the last book of my first series!

In addition, my story from this anthology is a lead on to another new series called The Shadowcat Nation series. I have been working on the first book for that series as well. In fact, that scene I mentioned as being the inspiration for my story in the anthology… well that scene is actually going to be in Book 1 of the series.
