NaNoWriMo Progress Report

I’m a little over 1/2 way through NaNoWriMo. For those who don’t know what it is, November is National Novel Writing Month, and authors can challenge themselves to write a full 50,000 word novel, from start to finish, during the month.

My Progress
Last week I posted about the book I’m writing – Andromeda’s Fall (Book #1 of the Shadowcat Nation Series). I’m really excited with how it’s going. I’m closing in on 30,000 words (about 110 pages), so right on track. My experience with writing at this pace so far has been very positive.

My Method
I think it helps that I was already in the habit of writing roughly 1,000 words a day in general. So notching that up to 1,600/day average hasn’t been too much of a stretch. It’s also particularly helpful that I am currently on sabbatical from work (one of the best perks my company offers) and so I’ve had the extra time to write.

My Buddies
I’ve also enjoyed my Buddies. As part of the challenge, you can have buddies – other writers going through the same marathon session. I have five buddies, each with different levels of experience, different genres, different ages, and different # of attempts with NaNowWriMo. It’s been really cool to be able to take the opportunity to encourage them and receive it back in spades.

My Hurdle
I will say that having hit the 100 page mark I’m hitting my usual sluggish time in the book. Something about that page #… I know that I’m going to finish the book. But I also know that I’ve been writing a LOT for a while and I’m only 1/2 way there. Just gotta remember. Marathon, not a sprint. Even though this is the fast version of a marathon. 🙂 At least at this rapid pace, I’ll be done sooner rather than later!
