I am very excited to announce that I am now a contracted author!
About a year ago I start the process of querying editors and agents as I pursued more traditional publishing while continuing with self-publishing (which I still love). You authors know the drill. I could wallpaper my bathroom with the form rejection letters in my inbox. A lot of querying is timing and luck. And this summer, it looks like both were on my side.
I had heard a lot about The Wild Rose Press in various author forums, through authors I read who publish with them, at my local RWA meetings, etc. I read an article in the RWA (Romance Writers of America) magazine that featured smaller presses in the romance genre who were having a lot of success. The article really got my attention. Here was a press where I felt I could really fit in. Their tag line is “Where writer’s bloom” – that already says a lot to me. So I sent off my query letters with no expectations whatsoever.
I was very surprised to receive an email fairly quickly that my query letter had been passed onto an editor. No form rejection! I was through the first door. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean much – publishers have a series of gates you must pass through before you reach the holy grail. Each publisher is different in how they vet their potential new books/authors. However, I made it through all the gates at TWRP!
And, finally, I was offered a contract.
Here’s me… “Oh – there’s the email from TWRP telling me thanks but no thanks. At least I got further along this time! Baby steps…. No! Wait! They’re offering me a contract?!?!?! OMG. OMG. OMG.”
The Wild Rose Press is contracting Andromeda’s Fall and the Shadowcat Nation series. And I am absolutely thrilled!!!
Look for another post soon with how this impacts some of my shorter-term plans like release schedules and such. In the meantime, I’ll be doing a little victory jig over here!
