Author Spotlight: Hiding by Katherine McDermott

INTERVIEW

Your main character, Teresa, has a lot to overcome. How would you say she grows as a character?

She learns that she can survive economically without depending on a man.

Paris is a gorgeous city. What made you pick it as a setting? Have you visited?

Yes, in fact, the idea for the setting came from the hotel where I stayed. The courtyard was just begging for a mural. Also, visited the Rodin Museum, Notre Dame, and other locations in the book.

Which was your favorite chapter or scene to write? And why?

The scene of the fire in the hotel and the catacomb scenes because they are almost Gothic and very intense.

What would your theme song be as an author?

Save the Last Dance for Me

5 words that describe your romance writing style?

Suspenseful, entertaining, funny, flirtatious, enigmatic

Someday I want…

to visit other parts of Europe!

What fictional character would you like to be? And why?

May: Josephine from Little Women because she is driven, caring, and becomes a successful writer.

Abigail: Jo is one of my very favorite characters of all time as well!

If you could have an intimate lunch with anyone in history, who would it be? And why?

Mark Twain because of his sense of humor.

  • What is your favorite word? Perseverance
  • What is your least favorite word? Procrastination because it gets you nowhere.

  • What profession other than yours would you NOT like to attempt? Surgery
  • What is your favorite swear word? I try hard not to swear.
  • If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say to you as you enter the Pearly Gates? Well done faithful servant.

Teresa Worthington escapes her abusive boyfriend, Alex, and flees to Paris to pursue a dream career in art. Alone and wary of men, she gradually makes friends and explores her new home. She is distraught to learn that Alex is still stalking her but is determined to create the life she has always wanted.

About the Author:

Katherine McDermott has worked as an English teacher, guidance counselor, and Adjunct English professor. She loves reading. She is married with two children and two adorable grandchildren. In her spare time, like Teresa in Hiding in Plain View, she likes to paint with acrylics. She received the Excellence in Christian Writing Award from the Blue Ridge Christian Writers Conference, the Daphne du Maurier award an unpublished suspense novel, honorable mention in the SOLA Romance Writers Conference. She has written both fiction and non-fiction for magazines and newspaper. She is the author of two children’s books The Underwear Tree and Les Petits Gardes. She co-authored The Lighthouses of S.C. published by Arcadia, wrote All Work, All Play by Marco Publishing and has authored two plays.
