Halloween has long been one of my favorite holidays. There’s candy and costumes involved. What’s not to like? After many Halloweens (no, I’m not going to tell you how many), it occurred to me that there are several life lessons to be gleaned from this very fun night of the year.

Perceptions: Sometimes we have to “put on a different face” in order to win the prize. (Might not be a nice life lesson, true nonetheless.)

Reality: Just because you look like a superhero, doesn’t mean you get super powers. (True for so many other “costumes” in life.)

Expectations: Giving someone a “healthy snack” when they are expecting candy is not going win you any friends.

Aging: Some things do get better with time. (Aren’t you glad we not longer dress in plastic potato-sack-like costumes?)

Being Kind: Being the jerk on your street could make Halloween your least favorite holiday (tricks instead of treats just might come your way.)

Self Control: Too much of a good thing will make you sick. (Rats! Cause I love chocolate.)

Fashion: Clothes made of plastic will never look good. (Yes, I mean pleather too.)

Marketing: We will all apparently do just about anything for free chocolate.

Letting Go: Give yourself permission to get a little silly and have a little fun every once in a while. It’s well worth it!
